This blog is the total responsibility of Samuel Ashwood, who writes and edits all the posts himself. I was born in the town of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and have lived in this area my entire life. I am a co-pastor of Sovereign Grace Church of Muskogee with my father John Ashwood. The Lord has blessed me to preach His word since 2005, and has also given me an excellent wife, and six children, four girls and two boys.
I would identify myself first and foremost as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, and someone who holds to Reformed (Calvinist) theology. This will be showcased in my biblical/theological postings. Occasionally I delve into issues of history and politics, and I approach these from a Jeffersonian/conservative viewpoint, with a strong emphasis on States’ Rights and the Constitution. All political views are, of course, subject to the authority of the word of God.
Anything profitable found on this blog is due, first of all to the grace of a sovereign and merciful God, and, under Him, to the instruction I have received from my parents, to the good preachers and sound Christians I’ve been acquainted with over the years; and, finally, to the many excellent Christian writings I have been able to get my hands on and read.
My grandfathers name also was Samuel Ashwood. He was born in Tunstall, England, came to the US about 1863, was a coal miner, lived in Clarinda, Iowa and is buried in Skotia, Nebraska. It was a delight to me to see his name show up like this. I never got a chance to meet him as he died before I was born.
I am presenting a Sunday morning Bible class titled “The Bible through the eyes of artists”. I would like to use several images that I have found on your posts about Joseph. Typically, I include the artist, titles, and when the art was created. Can you share with me who did the art pieces you used to illustrate Joseph in Potiphar’s house? jkeller@harding.edu
I find the art through Google Images. I’m not sure who was responsible for the picture you are referring to but here is link to an article that contains it: https://wwyeshua.wordpress.com/2014/07/17/joseph-arrives-in-egypt-genesis-391-20/
That is neat to hear… first time in my life I have heard of somebody with the same name as myself. I have a cousin and good friend who has the same name as you (at least the first and the last). Glad to have your visit on my blog, thanks for your comment.
I wanted to ask what seminary your dad went to he said it was correspondence course. I don’t know his email to ask him. Love his teaching and hope to hear you as well. Thanks.
Hi John… it’s been 50 years ago, but the correspondence/extension courses my Dad took were from Southwestern seminary. He was in a Southern Baptist church at that time, but left the denomination in the ’70s. Appreciate your inquiry, and attention to our ministry.
Hello Pastor Ashwood, I would like to contact you and ask you some questions about the South and slavery. I am a Virginian, and very pro-Confederate, and was hoping you could help me out. Is there a good way to contact you sir?
Hi Warren… if you have any questions for me, you can email me at bjpershing@juno.com. I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have to the best of my ability.
I am enjoying your blogs. Thank you for your wisdom.
