Invitations to proud and haughty sinners often sound as though we were begging them to condescend to “accept” Christ as though doing Him a favor.  The big question is, “Will He accept us?”  Indeed He will (“Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out, John 6:37), but He is not standing, hat in hand, as though He were a bargain on an auction block.  The New Testament word is not accept, but rather believe, trust, receive, commit, follow; and it requires a broken and a contrite heart coming to the Cross, poor and weak and blind.
