Duties Required by the First Commandment

Each of God’s law carries in it, by implication at least, both positive and negative aspects.  If the duty is stated negatively (“thou shalt not”), there are nevertheless positive applications that must be made.  In the case of the First Commandment, we are negatively told to have no other gods before God.  But there are also positive applications that need to be made, including our duties to fear, love, and obey our God.  These, and other positive duties contained within the spiritual breadth of the First Commandment are the subject of this sermon.
