Repentance and Faith

As Paul delivered his farewell address to the Ephesian elders, he summarized the entire content of his ministry as “repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”  These two key elements must always be at the heart of any true gospel ministry.  There must be repentance, including remorse for sin and turning away from sin, and this must of necessity be accompanied by seeking for the forgiveness of sins through the grace of Christ.  Where either faith or repentance is absent, there is no salvation, and where these two fundamental elements are not being preached, the gospel of Christ is not being preached.  If we would preach like John the Baptist, like Jesus our Saviour, like Paul or like Peter, like the Reformers or any great man ever used by God, we must constantly emphasize “repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”

I first preached this sermon at Living Stone Baptist Church in Village # 57, Guyana.  This recording was delivered at Sovereign Grace Bible Church of Harrah, Oklahoma, through the gracious invitation of Pastor Jerred Yancey.
