The instance of a notable miracle, and its aftermath, follows the aftermath of the host of healings recorded above.  This man was about as severely afflicted as anyone could be, being possessed of a devil, and both blind and dumb.  We know from the case of Job that the Devil is sometimes given leeway to afflict the bodies of men, and certainly he is given access to their minds and spirits as well on some occasion.  This man was afflicted in both his physical and spiritual constitutions.

But the cruelty of the devil was no match for the grace and the power of the Lord Jesus.  By His mere word He cast out the devil, opened the man’s eyes, and unloosed His lips.  The people who observed this astounding deed of mercy drew the proper conclusion, that this great Healer must truly be the Messiah.  “Is not this the Son of David?”
