It is only as we are living in accord with the commands of Christ, and seeking to honor Him by our conduct in this world, that we may be salt and light.  If we lose our savor by compromising with the world, growing cold in prayer or lax in study of Scripture, failing to attend upon the means of grace, then how can we glorify our Father in heaven?  It is absolutely imperative that we maintain close and constant contact with our Lord through the means that He has appointed, if we would be a candle which gives light to all that are in the house.  But when we do so, we have Christ’s assurance that men will take notice.  Those whose hearts are touched through the good witness of believers in Christ will pursue the same path of holiness, while even the unbeliever will be unable to deny that there is something strange and special at work in the heart of Jesus’ disciples.
